brian Wightman

Brian Wightman is the Tasmanian State Manager of the Australian Education Union having recently finished an extensive stint as Executive Director of the Property Council of Australia. He is also a former Attorney General for Tasmania.

Prior to this appointment, Brian ran a youth charity and; was a minister in the Tasmanian Labor government for four years, serving in justice, environment and heritage portfolios.

He also has experience in the education sector, working as a school principal before his political tenure.

Brian holds a Masters Degree from the University of Tasmania and has interests in leadership, education, writing program and volunteer management, policy and community engagement.

He writes for The Examiner and Advocate Newspapers.

Brian is a passionate first generation Tasmanian. His parents migrated from Belfast, Northern Ireland.

He is married to Katie and they are the proud parents of fraternal twins.
